MUMBAI, September 12: Mumbai Police have arrested a 40-year-old domestic worker in connection with the alleged theft of gold and diamond jewellery worth around ₹5 lakh from the Churchgate residence of Bollywood actor Ameesha Patel’s parents. The arrest followed a complaint by the actor’s mother, Asha Patel.
Domestic Help Arrested After Police Probe
The accused has been identified as Seema Ghate, who had reportedly worked at the Patel family residence for around one-and-a-half years.
Marine Drive Police traced her to the Virar-Palghar area after investigating the complaint. She was subsequently taken into custody and produced before a court.
Diamond-Studded Gold Bangle Reported Missing
Police reports said the missing jewellery included a diamond-studded gold bangle valued at approximately ₹5 lakh.
Asha Patel reportedly suspected the domestic worker’s involvement and had asked her to return the missing jewellery before approaching the police and filing a formal complaint.
Reports differ on the precise date of the alleged theft: detailed accounts published on September 12 say the bangle went missing in January 2026, while an earlier report cited August 20. Police investigation into the exact sequence of events remains ongoing.
Accused in Police Custody Until September 15
Following her arrest, Ghate was produced before a court and remanded to police custody until September 15.
Investigators are now trying to recover the missing jewellery and determine whether the accused has any previous criminal record. As of the latest reports, the stolen bangle had not yet been recovered.
Case Registered by Marine Drive Police
The Free Press Journal reported that police registered a case under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after receiving the complaint.
The case was initially registered against an unidentified woman before investigators traced Ghate. Police are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and whether anyone else was involved.
Theft Case Draws Attention Due to Patel Family Connection
The incident attracted widespread attention because the Churchgate residence belongs to the parents of actors Ameesha Patel and Ashmit Patel.
Ameesha Patel is best known for films including Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, and returned to major box-office success with Gadar 2 in 2023.
The investigation remains underway, with recovery of the missing jewellery now a key focus for Mumbai Police.
