DUBAI, September 6: Defending champions Sri Lanka Women will take on Bangladesh Women tonight in a crucial Group B clash of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The match is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM IST, or 6:30 PM local time in Dubai.
Sri Lanka Unbeaten After Two Matches
Sri Lanka enter tonight’s contest with an unbeaten record after winning both of their opening matches.
They began their title defence with a dominant nine-wicket victory over the UAE, chasing 80 in just 7.5 overs.
Sri Lanka then defeated Indonesia by 75 runs, scoring 124/7 before bowling Indonesia out for 49.
Chamari Athapaththu Coming Off Historic Spell
Captain Chamari Athapaththu produced one of the standout performances of the tournament against Indonesia.
She claimed seven wickets for just five runs in 3.3 overs, helping Sri Lanka dismiss Indonesia for only 49.
Athapaththu once again leads Sri Lanka’s 15-member Asia Cup squad, with Harshitha Samarawickrama serving as vice-captain.
Bangladesh Also Started With Convincing Win
Bangladesh opened their campaign with an impressive 71-run victory over Indonesia on August 31.
They posted 129/8 before dismissing Indonesia for 58 in 17.3 overs.
Sobhana Mostary scored 40, Shorna Akter contributed an unbeaten 31, while Bangladesh’s bowlers completed a comprehensive victory.
Nigar Sultana Joty Leads Bangladesh
Bangladesh are captained by Nigar Sultana Joty, with experienced spinner Nahida Akter serving as vice-captain.
Their squad also includes Dilara Akter, Sobhana Mostary, Shorna Akter, Ritu Moni, Fahima Khatun, Rabeya Khan and Marufa Akter.
Crucial Group B Contest
