NEW DELHI/WARSAW, September 3: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar begins his official visit to Ukraine and Poland on Thursday, with talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on major regional and international developments.
The Ministry of External Affairs has scheduled the three-day official visit from September 3 to 5, 2026. Jaishankar will hold consultations with senior leaders in both European countries.
Talks With Ukraine Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha
During the Ukraine leg, Jaishankar will hold bilateral consultations with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
According to the MEA, discussions will focus on enhancing India-Ukraine relations while providing an opportunity to exchange views on regional developments and issues of mutual interest.
The visit comes as the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues and India maintains diplomatic engagement with both Kyiv and Moscow.
Poland Talks With Radosław Sikorski
Jaishankar will also meet Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski during the visit.
India and Poland are expected to review their bilateral partnership and discuss areas where economic, political and strategic cooperation can be strengthened.
Visit Comes Amid Intensifying Ukraine Conflict
The diplomatic tour comes at a sensitive time, with fighting between Russia and Ukraine continuing and concerns growing over further escalation.
India has consistently advocated resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, while maintaining engagement with both sides.
Jaishankar’s Ukraine visit also follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent interactions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding significance to New Delhi’s diplomatic outreach to Kyiv.
Indian Interests May Also Feature
Reports indicate that concerns involving Indian nationals and seafarers in the Black Sea region could also feature during discussions, although the MEA’s official announcement has not listed specific individual issues on the agenda.
The official focus remains on bilateral relations, regional developments and matters of mutual interest.
India Expands European Engagement
The Ukraine-Poland tour forms part of India’s broader effort to strengthen engagement with key European partners amid rapidly changing geopolitical conditions.
The meetings are expected to provide an opportunity for India to deepen its partnerships with Kyiv and Warsaw while reiterating its position in favour of peaceful resolution of international conflicts.
Jaishankar’s official visit will conclude on September 5.
