New Delhi, June 29: The Delhi Government has unveiled the Capital’s first comprehensive Firefighting Master Plan, aimed at modernising fire and emergency services through advanced technology, improved infrastructure, and faster response mechanisms. The initiative seeks to strengthen disaster preparedness and enhance public safety in one of India’s most densely populated urban centres.
Officials said the master plan has been designed to address emerging fire safety challenges associated with rapid urbanisation, high-rise buildings, industrial zones, and expanding commercial areas.
Technology to Strengthen Emergency Response
The new plan focuses on integrating advanced technologies into firefighting and emergency management operations. These include real-time monitoring systems, GPS-enabled fire tenders, digital command and control centres, and data-driven emergency response mechanisms to improve coordination during fire incidents.
Authorities believe the adoption of modern technology will significantly reduce response times and improve operational efficiency across the city.
Modernisation of Fire Infrastructure
Under the master plan, the Delhi Fire Services will gradually upgrade its fleet with modern firefighting vehicles, aerial ladder platforms, rescue equipment, and specialised appliances capable of handling emergencies in high-rise buildings and congested localities.
The government also plans to establish new fire stations in rapidly developing areas to improve accessibility and emergency coverage.
Enhanced Training and Disaster Preparedness
The initiative includes regular training programmes for firefighters, mock drills, and specialised courses on handling industrial accidents, chemical hazards, and high-rise rescue operations.
Officials said greater emphasis will also be placed on community awareness programmes to educate citizens about fire prevention, evacuation procedures, and emergency preparedness.
Focus on Public Safety
The master plan aims to strengthen coordination between the Delhi Fire Services, police, health departments, municipal bodies, and disaster management authorities during emergencies.
Authorities said integrated communication systems and standard operating procedures will help ensure quicker decision-making and more effective disaster response.
Long-Term Vision for a Safer Delhi
The Delhi Government described the Firefighting Master Plan as a long-term strategy to build a more resilient emergency response system capable of meeting the city’s future needs.
Officials said the initiative aligns with the broader objective of creating a safer, technology-driven urban environment while improving the overall quality of emergency services available to residents.
