Jaipur, June 29: At least three labourers lost their lives and several others were injured after an under-construction retaining wall collapsed at a resort construction site in the Tala Mod area of Chandwaji, on the outskirts of Jaipur, on Monday. Rescue teams launched an extensive operation to search for workers feared trapped beneath the debris.
The incident occurred around 12:30 pm while labourers were carrying out work near a sewerage pit inside the construction site. According to officials, the wall suddenly gave way, burying several workers under concrete and soil.
Rescue Operation Launched Immediately
Teams from the police, district administration, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local emergency services rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the collapse.
Rescuers, assisted by local residents, used heavy machinery, including excavators, to remove debris and pull trapped workers to safety. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, where they are undergoing treatment.
Three Dead, Several Injured
Jaipur Rural Deputy Commissioner of Police Hanuman Prasad Meena confirmed that three people died in the accident. Initial reports indicate that the deceased include two women labourers, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity. Officials said the casualty figure could change if more victims are found during the rescue operation.
Authorities Begin Investigation
Senior administrative officials and Rajasthan government representatives visited the accident site to review the rescue efforts.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse. Authorities are examining whether construction safety norms were followed and whether any negligence contributed to the accident.
Chief Minister Expresses Condolences
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure the injured receive proper medical treatment. He also instructed the administration to continue rescue operations and submit a detailed report on the incident.
Rescue Efforts Continue
Rescue teams continued clearing the debris late into the day to ensure no workers remained trapped beneath the collapsed structure. Officials said a detailed structural assessment and inquiry will be carried out after the rescue operation concludes.
