New Delhi, June 24, 2026: The Adani Group has announced ambitious plans to develop 10 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear power capacity by 2035, marking its formal entry into India’s rapidly evolving nuclear energy sector. The announcement was made by Chairman Gautam Adani during the group’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The move comes as India accelerates efforts to expand its clean energy portfolio and strengthen long-term energy security. Through its newly established entity, Adani Atomic Energy, the conglomerate aims to become a major player in the country’s nuclear power landscape.
Speaking at the AGM, Gautam Adani said the group’s entry into nuclear energy represents a strategic step toward supporting India’s growing demand for reliable, round-the-clock electricity. He revealed that land for future nuclear projects has already been identified and that the company is positioning itself early to meet future energy requirements.
If achieved, the 10 GW target would make Adani one of the largest private-sector participants in India’s nuclear energy industry. The development follows policy reforms by the Indian government that have opened the nuclear generation sector to greater private-sector participation.
India currently has around 8 GW of operational nuclear power capacity and has set an ambitious goal of reaching 100 GW by 2047. Industry experts believe private investment will play a crucial role in helping the country achieve these targets while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
The nuclear initiative forms part of Adani Group’s broader energy strategy, which already includes thermal power, renewable energy, hydroelectric projects, natural gas infrastructure, and power transmission networks. The company is also investing heavily in data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure, sectors expected to require large amounts of stable power supply in the coming years.
Apart from nuclear energy, the group announced plans to continue expanding its power generation capabilities. Adani Power is currently undertaking one of the largest private-sector power expansion programs in India, with investments exceeding ₹2 lakh crore and a target of reaching 45 GW of generation capacity within the next five years.
Energy analysts view nuclear power as an important component of India’s future energy mix because it provides continuous electricity generation without the intermittency challenges associated with solar and wind energy. As demand for electricity rises due to industrial growth, urbanization, and digital infrastructure expansion, nuclear power is expected to play an increasingly significant role.
The announcement was positively received by investors, with Adani Group companies witnessing market attention following the disclosure. The company’s long-term commitment to nuclear energy signals confidence in India’s clean energy transition and its growing electricity needs.
With the 2035 target now in place, industry observers will closely monitor project approvals, regulatory developments, technology partnerships, and investment commitments as Adani Group moves forward with its nuclear power ambitions.
