India vs Bangladesh first test match of the 2 match series started on a disappointing note for the indian cricket fans, but India managed to make up at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday. The first inning’s score was struggling at 144/6; our two all-rounders, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, came to our rescue. They both managed to stretch the score to 339/6, with Ashwin hitting his 6th ton in the test while Jadeja remained unbeaten at 86 at the end of the day’s play.
It all started with Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto winning the toss and opting to bowl first. Our captain Rohit Sharma and co players Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, all 3 gave away their wickets to the 24-year-old seamer Hasan Mahmud. Yashasvi Jaiswal, however, stole his ground, scoring 56 off 118 balls and Rishabh supported him with 39 off 52 balls for the fourth wicket partnership until Mahmud claimed his fourth wicket.
Here are top 3 key moments of the game
- Ashwin does it again
Ashwin played a typical knock to help India reach a decent score and, in the process, got his 6th ton. He also got support from the other end in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and together they managed to stitch a partnership of 195 off 227 deliveries, where Jaddu contributed with 86 runs. They both remained unbeaten till the end of the day’s play.
Our local boy, meanwhile, started confidently and got to his ton in just 108 deliveries, smashing 10 fours and 2 sixes along the way. He expressed how much he loves playing on this ground and in front of the home crowd. Also, he disclosed how hard he worked on his game to sustain in tests and be handy in such situations whenever the team requires him as a batter.
2. Jadeja standing tall
Ravindra Jadeja, whom we all lovingly call Sir Jadeja, played a perfect role in the partnership with Ashwin. It is because of Sir Jadeja’s anchoring knock that Ashwin could play freely and get to his 6th ton in tests. While Ashwin gets a not-out century, Ravindra Jadeja also managed to collect 86 off 117 balls and remained unbeaten.
3. Hasan Mahmud shines bright
The 24-year-old seamer Hasan Mahmud gave nightmares to our top-order batters, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, who fell prey as his first 3 wickets. Mahmud also soon knocked out Rishabh Pant to claim his fourth wicket for the day.
Nevertheless, from the Indian team’s perspective, India is now looking in a good position with the help of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. It will be interesting to see tomorrow if India declares or the Bangladesh team cleans their batting lineup.
