The dates for the Maharashtra Assembly elections have been announced. The Election Commission held a press conference on Tuesday and announced the dates of the elections. A total of 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra will go to polls in the first phase on November 20, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said. The election results will be announced on November 23.

Of the total 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra, 25 are reserved for STs and 29 for SCs. A total of 9.63 crore voters will exercise their franchise in Maharashtra this time. This includes 4.97 crore male voters and 4.66 crore female voters. A total of 1,186 polling stations have been set up in 36 districts of the state for successful conduct of polls. The Election Commission has also said that voters above the age of 85 will be able to vote at home.

The notification for the elections will be issued by the Election Commission on October 22. At the same time, candidates will be able to file nominations till October 29 and withdraw their names till November 4. With the announcement of the election dates, the code of conduct has now come into force in the state.

There will be a direct fight between the Mahayuti and the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance

Let us tell you that in the year 2019, assembly elections were also held in a single phase here. The BJP and the Shiv Sena had fought the elections in an alliance and formed the government after the NCP fell out with the Congress over sharing the chief minister’s post. Later, the Shiv Sena and the NCP merged into the Congress. Eknath Shinde forged an alliance with the BJP in 2022 by bringing 40 Shiv Sena MLAs with him. Eknath Shinde became the Chief Minister. In the year 2023, Ajit Pawar also broke the NCP and joined the BJP and Shinde’s Shiv Sena. The three parties have formed an alliance called Mahayuti.

At the same time, the opposition has formed an alliance in the name of Maha Vikas Aghadi. Apart from the Shiv Sena, the NCP, and the Congress, there are other smaller parties in the fray. This time, the Maharashtra Assembly elections will be fought between the Mahayuti and the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance.
