Congress has made a big disclosure about the expenditure incurred in the Lok Sabha elections.
Expenses on Lok Sabha Elections
The Election Commission had sought information about the expenditure incurred by the party on the candidates in the Lok Sabha elections, in response to which the Congress has said that the party had given Rs 70 lakh each to its leader Rahul Gandhi to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad and Rae Bareli. The maximum fund was given to Vikramaditya Singh by the party. Vikramaditya Singh, who is contesting against BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut from Mandi seat of Himachal Pradesh, was given Rs 87 lakh by the party.
Fund to Kishori Lal Sharma
Kishori Lal Sharma is also among those who received a fund of Rs 70 lakh from Congress. Sharma defeated BJP leader Smriti Irani on the Amethi Lok Sabha seat. Apart from this, KC Venugopal, MP from Alappuzha Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, Manikam Tagore from Virudhunagar seat in Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishna from Gulbarga in Karnataka and Congress candidate Vijay Inder Singla from Anandpur Sahib in Punjab are also among those who received funds of Rs 70 lakh each. At the same time, senior Congress leaders Anand Sharma and Digvijay Singh, who lost the Lok Sabha elections, received funds of Rs 46 lakh and Rs 50 lakh respectively from the party.
Limit of expenditure in Lok Sabha
Let us tell you that there is a limit on the expenditure made by the candidate for an election campaign and its information has to be given to the Election Commission. The Election Commission had issued a notification in January 2022 stating that the limit of election expenditure for candidates in Lok Sabha elections has been increased from Rs 70 lakh to Rs 95 lakh and election expenditure in assembly elections has been increased from Rs 28 lakh to Rs 40 lakh. No candidate can spend more than this during an election campaign. This expenditure is related to the lump sum amount given to the candidates for contesting the elections.
Post Election
After the elections are over, the candidates and parties have to submit their election expenditure statement to the Election Commission. Last month, Congress had submitted its ‘election expenditure statement’ for the Lok Sabha elections along with the assembly elections of Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Andhra Pradesh to the Election Commission.
This expenditure of Congress is related to the lump sum amount given by the party to the candidates for contesting the elections.
