What should one do in dengue fever?
To guarantee appropriate treatment of the patient, one must know what to do and what not to do in dengue fever:
- Make sure the patient relaxes enough to help with faster recovery.
- Fluid Intake: During dengue fever, you really need enough fluid.
- As directed by a doctor, take medicines, use antipyretics such as paracetamol or acetaminophen.
- See a doctor: If the patient bleeds from the nose, gums, urine, or feces, seek quick medical attention.
- Stay away from mosquitoes to ward against dengue sickness. Use nets and repellents; dress to cover your body. Install windows and door nets.
- Maintain cleanliness in your surroundings, especially in rainy conditions, and routinely drain stored water.
- If visiting places where dengue is common, be sure you take required care.
- If you have dengue fever, isolate yourself to stop the disease from spreading and let family members keep close observation on your condition.
What Not to Do in Fever from Dengues
- Medicine Precautions: Never start any medicine without consulting a doctor. Steer clear of aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.; these might raise bleeding risk.
- Minimizing physical activity will help you to preserve your health.
- Give your mouth particular attention; if your gums are bleeding, substitute mouthwash for brushing.
- Avoid Steroids: Never take steroids without professional counsel.
- Try not to get platelet transfusion unless absolutely required. It is only needed for patients in extreme illness.
- Do not rely just on fogging to control mosquitoes since it does not kill mosquito eggs and larvae.
- Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) should be used with great caution since they can provide false positive findings.
- Verify the dengue diagnosis from a respected hospital. The Government of India (GOI) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) neither advise the use of RDT for dengue diagnosis.
