Can a test tell how many eggs are left in a woman’s body?

AMH Test

Nowadays life has become like a race, in which everyone wants to come first. First studies, then career, then job and in this the whole life is spent. In the same race, people are nowadays thinking about marriage when they are older and this also delays the start of their family. This has a direct impact on women’s health.

In such a situation, there is such a test, which can tell how many eggs are left in the woman’s body and how long they will remain healthy. Along with this, if there is any problem in their ovaries, then it can also be detected. This test is called the anti-Mullerian test or AMH test. Let’s know about it in detail.

What is the anti-Mullerian test (AMH)?

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the anti-Mullerian test (AMH test) measures the amount of anti-Mullerian hormone in the blood. All people produce these hormones, but doctors use this test in women. Anti-mullerian hormones play a very important role in the development of the sex organs of the fetus in the uterus. This hormone levels are higher in male foetuses, as it prevents them from developing female reproductive organs. Female fetuses need a small amount of these hormones for their development.

When is the anti-Mullerian test done?

Doctors may recommend an anti-Mullerian test to determine if the ovarian mass is a granulosa cell tumor. It can also be used to check:

  • Is the treatment working for the patient?
  • Whether the tumor has come back in the patient or not?
  • What does the anti-Mullerian test show?

The anti-Mullerian test shows how many eggs are left in the woman and how long they can stay healthy. This can show whether the woman has less time to get pregnant. This test can also show how well a woman can respond to injectable fertility drugs that stimulate the ovaries to fertilize multiple eggs in preparation for in vitro fertilization (IVF).

What does the anti-Mullerian test not reveal?

The anti-Mullerian test i. e. AMH test is connected to the egg count. It does not detect fertility (with or without treatment) or the time it takes to go through menopause. It should also be kept in mind that the level of anti-mullerian hormone should be in the normal range. Some other factors can also affect the ability to conceive, such as:

  • Age, medical conditions, smoking, etc.
  • Sperm count and motility

Not ovulating regularly, blockage of fallopian tubes, pelvic scarring, endometriosis and uterine abnormalities like fibroids.

How much anti-Mullerian hormone level is good according to age?

The level of anti-mullerian hormone can decrease after an age, so it is normal to have a decrease in ovarian reserve capacity at the age of 30, 40 and 50. The level of these hormones is considered to be good:

  • 25 years old: 3.0 ng / mL
  • 30 years: 2.5 ng / mL
  • 35 years old: 1.5 ng / mL
  • 40 years: 1 ng / mL
  • 45 years: 0.5 ng / mL

This should also be taken into account. Higher anti-Mullerian hormone levels are not always a good thing. This condition is more common in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

This anti-Mullerian test can be easily done at home. However, tests done at home are convenient, but after that talk to a doctor for advice.

Note: The information given here is based on research. But if you are suffering from any physical problem, then definitely consult your health expert.
