In Maharashtra Shiv Sena UBT has released the second list of candidates for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha Election for the 15th Maharashtra legislative assembly. After releasing the second list, the total number of candidates is 80, with key leaders including Aaditya Thackeray from Worli seat and Ajay Choudhary from Sewari.
There was a tussle between Congress and Shiv Sena UBT for Mumbai and Vidharbha for seats. According to reports Shiv Sena UBT was asking for 12 seats from the Vidarbha region but Congress was adamant that it would win all the seats from Vidarbha on its own.
In the first list of candidates, UBT-led Shiv Sena (SHS) has released names for 65 candidates. 14 out of 15 sitting MLAs have been named in the list. This was released in the Shiv Sena newspaper Saamana.There was much speculation on the only sitting MLA who has not been named in the list of candidates is Ajay Choudhary. Ajay Choudhary is currently the deputy leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra legislature. He has been renominated in the second list of candidates.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi(MVA) which is the state-based coalition of Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) along with support from the Samajwadi Party(SP), PWPI, CPI(M) and several political parties including Independent MLA formed after the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly (14th Legislative Assembly). The MVA is the official opposition of the Maharashtra Legislature. Congress, Shiv Sena(UBT) and NCP-SP have reached an agreement on 255 seats with each of them contesting in 85 seats. The coalition has stated that 10 seats will be given to smaller parties while 23 seats are up for discussion. SP state president Abu Asim Azmi has stated that they have made a formal request for 12 seats and warned the MVA decision-makers to finalize talks with smaller parties by today(26.10.2024) EOD. SP has already fielded 5 candidates who Mr Azmi is confident are winning.
