The Supreme Court heard the case of rape and murder of a female trainee doctor in Kolkata again on Monday. During this, the West Bengal government filed a status report in the case of attack and vandalism by the mob in the hospital. On which the court also asked many questions. At the same time, the CBI has got one more week’s time from the court to file a status report. The court has directed the doctors who went on strike to return to duty by 5 p.m. tomorrow.
The Bengal government wants to hide something from the CBI.
The bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud reviewed the status report of the Bengal government while hearing the case. Senior advocate of Bengal government Kapil Sibal, while submitting the status report to the court, said, “Due to the strike of doctors, patients are not getting treatment, due to which 23 people died.” At the same time, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared on behalf of the CBI, said that “the Bengal government wants to hide something about this incident from the CBI. Due to which we have not been given a copy of the status report yet.”
Supreme Court raised many questions.
CJI Chandrachud asked many questions after studying the status report. CJI asked Kapil Sibal, “What was the time of the unnatural death of the victim, and when was its entry made?” On this, Sibal told that “the death certificate was received at 1.47 pm and the entry regarding unnatural death was recorded at 2.55 am.” On this, the Supreme Court asked, “Then why did it take so much time?” But Sibal could not answer.
September 17 is the next hearing.
At the same time, when the CJI asked, “When did the search and recovery of the body take place?” So Sibal said that “the body was recovered at 8.30 pm, and the search process started when the body was taken for a postmortem. Before that, photography and videography of the crime scene were done. These footages have been handed over to the CBI.” However, the CBI said that the footage was incomplete. The Supreme Court once again asked Kapil Sibal, “When did the police register the FIR?” So Sibal said that “the FIR was registered at 2.55 pm and the death certificate was issued at 1.47 pm.” On this, the CJI told Sibal that “we need clarification on the next hearing in the case of unnatural death.” Now the hearing of this case will be held on September 17.
