The tragic incident with a female doctor in Kolkata has shaken the whole of South Asia. This incident forced the students of Dhaka University to protest. On Friday, a different scene was seen in Dhaka University. The students were holding placards in their hands and shouting loud slogans. Their anger was over a shameful incident that happened in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. A female doctor was raped and murdered there. The students protested with the slogan “Awaaz Tolo Nari,” i.e., “Women, raise your voice.” Their demand was that women should get safety and the criminals should be punished.
Students raise their own voice.
Many students expressed their views in this protest. Physics student Rahnuma Ahmed Niret said, “We know that the Kolkata hospital did not help properly in this matter. We want the government to provide full help in this matter and provide justice as soon as possible.” Anja Fahmin, a student of anthropology, said, “Such incidents happen with women all over the world. We are with the people of Kolkata. We want that such cases should be investigated properly in Bangladesh as well.” She also said that the government should make the country safe for women with the help of students.
This message was given for the future.
Anika Arefin Anu, a student of finance, said something important. She said, “Often in such cases, the name of the victim is known to everyone, but the name of the culprit remains hidden. Sometimes even the government suppresses these cases. Now we should not remain silent. We have to raise our voice against all kinds of injustice.” The students also organized a program called “Occupy the Night.” In this, they demanded that all rape cases should be investigated properly and the culprits should be punished.
