Rajnath Singh Applauds Nirmala Sitharaman for Record Defence Budget Allocation

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh thanked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for giving the defence sector the highest allocation in the Union allocation for FY 2024-25. Rajnath Singh announced the budget allocation and its implications on India’s defence capability in a series of X postings.

Defence Sector Record Allocation

Rajnath Singh congratulated Nirmala Sitharaman for allocating ₹6,21,940.85 Crore to the Ministry of Defence, representing 12.9% of the Government of India’s FY 2024-25 budget. Rajnath Singh stated in his X post that the ₹1,72,000 Crore capital spending will considerably improve the Armed Forces’ capability.

The Defence Minister emphasized the allocation of ₹1,05,518.43 Crore for domestic capital procurement, bolstering the Atmanirbharta project. Rajnath Singh commended Nirmala Sitharaman for her foresight in allocating a large amount of the budget to local defense manufacture and minimizing foreign supplier dependence.

Improved Border Infrastructure

Mr. Singh emphasized the 30% increase in Border Roads funding over the previous budget. The funding of ₹6,500 Crore to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) will accelerate border infrastructure development, vital for national security. Rajnath Singh praised Nirmala Sitharaman’s efforts to strengthen Indian defences, especially in vulnerable border areas.

Supporting Defence Startups and Innovation

The Defence Minister announced a ₹518 Crore funding for the iDEX project, aimed at enhancing the defense startup ecosystem. Startups, MSMEs, and inventors will receive money to develop defensive technology and self-reliance. Rajnath Singh praised Nirmala Sitharaman’s strategic approach for developing indigenous technology.
