Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who started the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign from Panipat in 2015, on Monday started the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC)’s ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana‘ from Panipat in Haryana. According to media reports, the aim of this scheme is to train 10th pass women aged 18-70 years and empower them financially. Meanwhile, while announcing the scheme, PM Modi said that “Today India is taking another strong step towards women empowerment. Today is the 9th. The number nine is considered very auspicious in the scriptures. The number nine is associated with the nine powers of Nav Durga. We all worship Shakti on the nine days of Navratri in a year. Today is also like the worship of Nari Shakti.” 

Through the Bima Sakhi scheme, 10th pass sisters and daughters will be given training

He further said that “Through the Bima Sakhi scheme, 10th pass sisters and daughters will be given training. They will also be given financial help for 3 years. Data related to the insurance sector shows that an LIC agent earns more than 1.75 lakh rupees every year. That means our Bima Sakhis will also earn this much money.” Let us tell you that while posting on the social media platform ‘X‘, PM Modi wrote that we are committed to the empowerment of mothers, sisters and daughters across the country. In this connection, today at around 2 pm, there will be a good opportunity to start the Bima Sakhi scheme in Panipat, Haryana. During this time, I will also lay the foundation stone and inaugurate many more projects.”

Know what is Bima Sakhi Yojana?

  • Under the Bima Sakhi Yojana, one lakh women across the country will be trained as LIC agents. This includes 8,000 women from Haryana.
  • Sakhis will get financial assistance in three years of special training.
  • In this, women will get financial assistance of Rs 7,000 per month in the first year, Rs 6,000 per month in the second year and Rs 5,000 per month in the third year.
  • Through this, financial literacy and insurance awareness will be promoted.

Who can apply?

The big thing is that after training, women can work as LIC agents. Not only this, graduate Bima Sakhis will also get a chance to become a development officer in LIC. Let us tell you that in this scheme of Life Insurance Corporation of India, women aged 18-70 years, who have passed tenth class, can apply. The special thing is that to promote financial literacy and insurance awareness, they will get special training for the first three years and a Stipend will be given. Earlier on January 22, 2015, PM Modi had launched the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme from Panipat to save girls and especially to improve the skewed sex ratio in the state. This scheme was launched with a funding of Rs 100 crore.
