The matter seems to be heating up between Congress and the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir regarding Article 370. In fact, Congress has denied the demand for restoration of Article 370 in the resolution of the assembly, due to which political rhetoric has intensified. The National Conference, the party of the state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has raised questions on this position of Congress. Let us tell you that last week, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly passed a resolution for the restoration of special status and constitutional guarantees. This proposal was approved by voice vote despite the opposition of the BJP. All six Congress MLAs also voted in favour of this proposal.
Congress backtracked from the demand for restoration of Article 370
After Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge backtracked from the demand for restoration of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hamid Karr has also put forth his point on this issue, echoing the party’s tune. Tariq Hamid Karr said that “the demand for restoration of Article 370 was neither raised in the resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly last week nor has it been mentioned anywhere else.” He also clarified that “Congress has already clarified its stand on this issue after the Assembly’s resolution.” Tariq said that “We have already said that the biggest demand that should be made after the Supreme Court’s decision is to restore the state’s status. The BJP is twisting this issue for political gain.”
Ruling National Conference attacks Congress on this U-turn
According to the information, the ruling National Conference has attacked Congress on this U-turn. National Conference leader and MP Agha Ruhullah took on the Congress and said that “no one has the right to misrepresent the resolution passed by the Assembly.” Agha further said in his statement that “Congress should clarify what stand it takes on the issue of restoration of Article 370.”

Congress did not join Omar Abdullah’s government due to fear
It is worth mentioning that the National Conference and Congress had contested the assembly elections jointly. Congress has said that “it will not join the government led by Omar Abdullah until the state status is restored.” Actually, the National Conference was demanding the restoration of Article 370. Congress feared that BJP can use the event of alliance with National Conference for its benefit in the upcoming assembly elections to be held in Maharashtra and other states, so Congress did not join Omar Abdullah’s government.
