All the efforts of the family to save Indian nurse Nimisha Priya (Nimisha Priya case) have failed. Yemen’s President Rashad al-Alimi has approved the hanging of Nimisha Priya. The family had been trying to save their 36-year-old daughter from the death penalty for a long time. Of course, this decision of the Yemeni President is like a big shock for Priya’s family. An attempt was made to pay blood money to save Nimisha and an apology was also sought from the President. But neither the blood money was settled nor could an apology be obtained from the President.
Nimisha Priya (Nimisha Priya case) has been sentenced to death in the case of murder of Yemeni citizen
Actually, in the year 2017, Nimisha Priya (Nimisha Priya case), a resident of Palakkad district of Kerala, was sentenced to death in the case of murder of Yemeni citizen Talal Abdo Mehdi. She has been imprisoned in Yemen since 2017. According to Yemeni media reports, Nimisha can be hanged within the next one month after getting approval from the President. On this whole matter, the Ministry of External Affairs has said that “The Government of India is providing all possible help to nurse Nimisha Priya, who is lodged in the Central Jail of Sana’a, the capital of Yemen.” Let us tell you that Nimisha went to Yemen in the year 2012 with her husband and daughter. And she was working as a nurse there. In the year 2014, her husband and daughter returned to India. After this, in the year 2016, due to the civil war in Yemen, restrictions were imposed on travel outside the country. In such a situation, he could not go back to Yemen. Meanwhile, after working in several hospitals, Nimisha opened her own clinic in Yemen. It is said that Yemeni citizen Talal Mahdi helped Nimisha a lot in this work.

Talal died due to overdose of Nimisha’s injection (Nimisha Priya case)
According to media reports, when Nimisha Priya (Nimisha Priya case) started earning from the clinic, Talal asked for his share. Due to this, bitterness in the relationship between the two increased and it even reached the point of fighting. Meanwhile, in the year 2016, Nimisha complained to the police about Talal torturing her. After receiving the complaint, Talal was arrested. After coming out of jail, Talal harassed Nimisha again and kept her passport with him. Meanwhile, in 2017, to get her passport back, Nimisha injected Talal with a sedative. And he died due to overdose of the injection. After Talal’s death, Nimisha, with the help of her friend Abdul Hanan, cut his body into pieces and disposed it in a water tank. While investigating the case, the police arrested both of them in August 2017. The court convicted both of them and sentenced Nimisha to death and Abdul Hanan to life imprisonment.
The President rejected Nimisha Priya’s plea for pardon
However, after this case, Nimisha (Nimisha Priya case) also tried to flee from Yemen, but she was arrested before she could escape. The Yemeni court convicted Priya of murder in 2018 and sentenced her to death in 2020. The Supreme Judicial Council of Yemen also upheld Priya’s sentence in November 2023. After this, the only option left for Priya’s family was blood money and appealing to the President. Nimisha Priya’s mother Prema Kumari continuously tried to negotiate with the victim’s family on blood money. Negotiations went on for a long time, but in the end they were not successful. Now even the President has rejected the appeal for pardon.
