There is a shortage of Gurkhas from Nepal in our Gorkha Regiment. Nepal is no longer sending its Gurkhas to join the Indian Army. You will be surprised to know the reason. Actually, ever since the Government of India has come up with the Agneepath scheme for the Indian Army, Nepal has not allowed a single recruitment rally to be organised. This is probably the only regiment in the world, which is serving in the army of not one, two but three countries. They serve in the armies of three countries i.e. UK, India and Nepal. Most Gurkhas are part of the Indian Army. There are seven Gorkha regiments in the country, which have more than 43 battalions.
The history of Gurkhas is more than 200 years old
Let us tell you that the Gurkhas have a history of more than 200 years in the Indian Army. Now the situation is that since the year 2019, not a single Gorkha has been given to the Gorkha Regiment of the Indian Army. The important thing is that Gorkha soldiers retire every year. In such a situation, it is being assumed that if this continues, then in the coming 10-12 years, there will not be a single Nepali Gorkha in the Gorkha Regiment of the Indian Army. At present, 150 to 200 Nepali Gorkhas have decreased in the battalions of the Gorkha Regiment of the Indian Army. The reason is that to compensate for them, local youth are being recruited from Kumaon and Garhwal of Uttarakhand state.
6 to 8 thousand Nepali Gorkhas have decreased
According to media reports, before independence, about 90 percent of the Gorkha soldiers in the Gorkha Regiment were from Nepal and 10 percent were Indian Gorkhas, but as time passed, it decreased. First it was made 80:20 and later it was made 60:40. That is, 60 percent Nepali Gorkhas and 40 percent Indian Gorkhas. Earlier, Indian Army was not getting Indian Gorkhas and now it is not getting Gorkhas from Nepal. According to an estimate, 6 to 8 thousand Nepali Gorkhas have been reduced.

Due to China, the number of Nepali Gorkhas in Indian Army will become negligible
China has always had its eyes on Nepali Gorkhas. According to a report, China is trying to recruit Nepali Gorkhas in its army. Nepal’s relations with China are improving. In such a situation, it cannot be denied that in future the number of Nepali Gorkhas in the Indian Army will be negligible. Not only China, Britain is also eyeing Nepali Gorkhas. A report also claims that Britain is planning to establish its Royal Gorkha Regiment.
Most number of Gorkhas are in Indian Army
Let us tell you that the British already have a Gorkha Regiment. When the British established the Gorkha regiment at the time of independence, their total number was 10. After independence, when the army was divided, the British kept 4 regiments with themselves and handed over 6 regiments to India. After independence, the Indian Army established another Gorkha regiment. Meanwhile, one of the 4 regiments that went to the British was abolished. In such a situation, it is believed that Britain is preparing to establish it again.
