There is a ruckus over a part of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech. Congress and other parties have adopted an aggressive stance on Amit Shah’s statement about the Constitution maker Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. In such a situation, how could BSP chief Mayawati stay behind? Echoing the opposition, she called it an insult to Babasaheb and demanded an apology, saying that “there is a lot of anger in the Dalit society about this. Actually, Congress and opposition parties allege that “Shah insulted Babasaheb during his address while responding to the two-day discussion on the glorious journey of 75 years of the Constitution of India in the Rajya Sabha.” The main opposition party released a video excerpt of Shah’s address in which the Home Minister can be heard taking a dig at the opposition and saying that “Now a fashion has come – Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If you had taken this much name of God, you would have attained heaven for seven lives.”
Baba Saheb’s dignity and existence has been deeply hurt
Taking BJP to task on this statement of Amit Shah, sister Kumari Mayawati said that “The words used by Amit Shah in the Parliament about Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and the messiah of Dalits and other neglected classes, have deeply hurt Baba Saheb’s dignity and existence and in a way he has been insulted. Now there is tremendous anger and resentment among his followers across the country. He (Amit Shah) should take back his words and also repent for this. Otherwise, his (Ambedkar’s) followers will never be able to forget this. Just like they have not been able to forget the misdeeds of Congress towards Ambedkar.”

Congress is not given due respect to Babasaheb in the past
Mayawati also criticised Congress, accusing it of not giving due respect to Babasaheb in the past. She alleged that “after the death of Babasaheb, the Congress party worked to erase his name and his important contribution in the making of the Constitution from the pages of history for vote bank politics.”
