The ruling Mahayuti and opposition alliance Mahavikas Aghadi have started their preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra. At present, both the ruling and the opposition are busy finalizing the seat sharing. It is reported that while the Mahavikas Aghadi is still brainstorming on seat sharing, the ruling Mahayuti has prepared the seat sharing formula. According to media reports, this time in the Maharashtra assembly elections, BJP can contest on 150 seats, Shinde’s Shiv Sena on 70 and Ajit faction NCP on 60 seats. However, this division is yet to be finalized.
Let us tell you that the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance has held several meetings with all the parties to decide the seat sharing formula in the assembly elections. Reports suggest that in these meetings, the BJP has proposed to contest on more than 150 seats out of 288 seats in Maharashtra, along with giving 70 seats to Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and 60 seats to Ajit Pawar’s NCP. However, both the parties have demanded more seats in the elections, calling themselves stronger.
Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar want more seats
According to media reports, Eknath Shinde has demanded more seats from BJP in view of the Lok Sabha election results. Some reports claim that Shinde’s Shiv Sena wants to contest on around 125 seats this time. Similarly, Ajit Pawar’s NCP has also demanded 80 seats instead of 60 from BJP. NCP leader and cabinet minister Dharmarao Baba Atram, while talking to the media recently, had said that NCP will contest the assembly elections on 80 seats in the Mahayuti alliance. The party has also started a survey across the state for this. A meeting is going to be held again between the three parties this month to finalize the seat sharing. It is expected that the three parties will reach a consensus on the seat sharing in the month of August itself.
Let us tell you that in the year 2019, BJP contested the Maharashtra Assembly elections along with the undivided Shiv Sena and won 105 seats. Along with this, BJP also got the support of 10 independents.
