Actually, organizing Maha Kumbh is an ancient tradition. This tradition has been going on since the Vedic period. Let us tell you that the main purpose behind this is to bathe in holy rivers. According to the belief, bathing in holy rivers destroys man’s sins. The bath taken here is also helpful in attaining salvation. Talking about the story of the beginning of Kumbh Mela, its story is linked to the story of Samudra Manthan in mythology. According to mythology, Lord Vishnu had asked Dev to churn the ocean. There was a war between the gods and demons for 12 days
Let us tell you that Kumbh also means urn. Now a war broke out between the gods and demons to get the nectar. Due to which, Lord Vishnu entrusted his vehicle Garuda with the task of protecting the pot of nectar. When Garuda was flying with Amrit as per the order of Lord Vishnu, some drops of Amrit fell at four places, mainly Haridwar, Ujjain, Prayagraj, Nashik. Since then, Kumbh Mela is organized at these places every 12 years. During this time, people atone for their sins by taking a dip in the Ganga. It is believed that there was a war between the gods and demons for 12 days. Which is considered equal to 12 years in human years. Therefore, Kumbh is organized every 12 years.
