Ahead of the assembly elections in Maharashtra, political parties have been actively campaigning in the state. Both Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi are preparing a list of candidates along with the inclusion of other smaller parties in their alliance. Meanwhile, there is a buzz in Maharashtra politics that Asaduddin Owaisi’s party, AIMIM, now wants to contest the elections by joining the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance. However, with the beginning of this discussion, rebellion has also started in the Maha Vikas Aghadi. The Shiv Sena (UBT) of the Uddhav Thackeray faction is the most opposed to this alliance.
Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena has opposed this, arguing that many parties are already involved in the Maha Vikas Aghadi. The alliance comprises the Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party, and the Communist Party of India. There is no place for a new party here. If any party joins this alliance now, there may be a problem in seat sharing.
Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has written to the Congress and Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) proposing an alliance. The Congress and the NCP have neither accepted nor rejected Owaisi’s offer. According to Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders, Owaisi’s proposal has been discussed with all parties within the alliance, but many parties are opposed to it, due to which consensus is not being reached.
According to Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders, Owaisi has demanded 28 seats to contest the Maharashtra elections by joining the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance. All these seats in the state are either Muslim-dominated areas or have Muslim voters as the X-factor. According to AIMIM party leaders, if there is an alliance with Maha Vikas Aghadi, he is also ready to leave some seats for other parties but is sure to contest more than 20 seats.
