India and Nepal have a longstanding border dispute. There are reports that some clerics from Pakistan are preparing jihadis in Nepal. This should worry every Indian. Let us know what is the whole matter and what effect it can have on India’s security.
What is the India-Nepal border?
There is a madrasa in Banke district of Nepal which is just 6 km away from the border of India. According to reports, Pakistani clerics are imparting jihadi education to more than 2500 Nepali Muslim youths in this madrasa. These maulvis are poisoning the minds of those youth against India. This poses a serious threat to India’s security. The name of this madrasa is Fultekara and it is located in Nepalgunj. The most worrying thing is that the money to run this madrassa is coming from Pakistan. Most of the clerics who teach here have also come from Pakistani cities such as Karachi and Lahore.
Why is this situation alarming?
The threat of cross-border terrorism: When such activities take place on the border of a country, there is a fear of terrorism spreading from there. The threat on the India-Nepal border is also high because there is an open border between the two countries. People can easily move from one country to another.
Misuse of young people: The youth of Nepal are being misled in the name of jihadi education. They are against India. If these youths go on the wrong path, then there can be trouble for both the countries.
Impact on India-Nepal relations: Relations between India and Nepal have long been prickly. But if such activities against India continue from the soil of Nepal, then the relations between the two countries can be adversely affected.
