Five Naxals were killed in an encounter with security forces in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on Monday, police said. The encounter took place in the dense forests bordering Chhattisgarh. The encounter involved CRPF personnel and C-60 commandos of Gadchiroli police. According to a statement issued by the Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police’s office, these Naxals wanted to disrupt the elections scheduled for November 20. They had gathered in the forest to prepare their strategy and were planning an attack, but the information was received by the security forces.
5 PLGA Naxals killed
According to Gadchiroli police, 22 teams of C-60 commandos and two squads of CRPF cordoned off the forest from two sides. As the security forces approached the spot, the Naxals started firing indiscriminately. The security forces also gave a befitting reply, and five naxals of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) were killed. The encounter lasted for about eight hours, and the killed Naxals included three women. The remaining Naxals fled from the spot, and a search operation was on to nab them.
The female pilot did a great job
The courage of a woman pilot in this successful encounter is now being highly appreciated. According to police officials, during the encounter, the woman pilot showed unprecedented courage and brought down her Pawan Hans helicopter amid a hail of bullets and rescued an injured commando with the help of a rope. During this time, the Naxals also attacked the helicopter with bullets and rockets, but the female pilot was not afraid of this. The injured are being treated at a hospital in Nagpur. According to doctors, he has received three bullet injuries, and his condition is critical.
Top PLGA commander Prabhakaran escapes
The encounter took place 7 km inside the forests of Abujhmad. According to police officials, the C-60 and CRPF commandos had entered the forest three days ago. Before the encounter with the Naxals, the security forces quietly searched the landmines in the entire area. Top PLGA commander Prabhakaran, who headed the Gadchiroli division, was also present at the spot, but he escaped from the scene under the protection of his bodyguards as soon as the encounter began.
