Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, a former chief minister of West Bengal and leader of the CPI (M), passed away. He was eighty years old. He died this morning at his home on Palm Avenue in Ballygunge, Kolkata. His son, Suchitnath Bhattacharya, confirmed his death. Buddhadeb was a well-known corporate administrator and seasoned CPM participant. The news of his death has shocked many people from all political backgrounds.
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was sick last year
Illness drove Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee into the Indian Hospital in July of the previous year. However, the hospital later allowed him to leave. Still, his health kept getting worse. He was receiving treatment for pneumonia in addition to other illnesses. He was treated at a private hospital in Kolkata. His breathing was labored.
The Chief Minister served from 2000 to 2011.
From 2000 to 2011, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee led West Bengal as its chief minister for 11 years in a row. He served as the Left Front government’s second and final chief minister. He was born in Kolkata on March 1, 1944. He was one of the CPM’s senior leaders. He had withdrawn from public life and active politics for a number of years due to illness and old age.
