On the occasion of Diwali and Chhath Puja, passengers going to Bihar from different parts of the country are facing a lot of problems. People traveling in the festival special train are not getting even basic facilities despite paying 30 percent more than the normal fare. The condition of passengers at Patna Junction, Rajendranagar Terminal, Danapur, and Patliputra Junction is very pathetic.
The number of passengers in the festival special trains going towards Bihar from big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad is many times more than the capacity. The general and sleeper coaches are so crowded that the passengers are also having difficulty breathing. Rakesh, who came from Ahmedabad, said that more than 300 people are traveling in one bogie, while the capacity is 100 passengers.
Many passengers fell ill on the way and had to order medicines
Neha Kumari, who was traveling in the third AC, said, “She had to pay extra for the Tatkal ticket, but even in the AC coach, it was very difficult to go to the bathroom.” Many passengers have to travel standing. The bogies are so crowded that people are even entering through emergency windows. Several passengers were also injured in the incident.
Challenges of Ticketing and Security System
Passengers are struggling to get confirmed tickets. Many people said that they had to go to the counter for three days, but neither did they get an AC ticket nor a sleeper.”There is a situation of fighting at the counters. Even in the reserved coaches, there is a rush of waiting tickets and ticketless passengers. Security is also a concern. The presence of RPF at Rajendra Nagar terminal is negligible. No action is being taken against passengers without tickets. The crowd management at the stations is also not being done properly. Many passengers lost their luggage.
Serious problems of food and hygiene
The problems of train travel in the festival are mostly about food and hygiene.” The entire journey from Delhi to Patna was full of hunger. There is no pantry car facility in special trains. The food that is served is also of poor quality and expensive. The condition of sanitation is very poor. Boats are not clean, and toilets are not fit for use. Tanveer Ahmed said, “The special train neither has sanitation facilities nor adequate water facilities. Passengers have to carry their own water bottles.
Problem of time and delay
The condition of train services is very bad. The Anand Vihar Terminal-Muzaffarpur special train was scheduled to reach at 10:25 am, but it reached at 3 pm. The train was repeatedly halting between Neura and Pataliputra. The passengers were stranded in the train for some time. The Ahmedabad-Barauni train was running behind schedule. Many passengers reported that they had missed their meetings and appointments. The delay has led to an increase in the number of passengers at the stations.
The condition of platforms and station management
The condition of platforms at stations is also worrying. The number of passengers at Patliputra station is several times more than normal days. Most of the trains are coming and going from platforms two, three, and four, making it difficult to manage the crowd. Drinking water and toilet facilities are also inadequate. Passengers are sitting on the platform and on the bridge and waiting for hours. Auto drivers are also taking advantage of this situation and charging more fares.
