President Draupadi Murmu has expressed her pain over the incident that happened with the female trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Medical College.
She is deeply hurt by this incident. According to media reports, in her first comment, she said that “she is disappointed and horrified.” She said that “crimes against daughters will not be tolerated. At the same time, now Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also taken a sharp stand on the central government and said that there is no provision for strict punishment in the law made by the Center. Therefore, she will demand a law that the accused should be hanged within 10 days. She has also recommended the women of the country to fulfill this demand on September 1. CM Mamata Banerjee has also said that she will pass the bill for death penalty against these accused and will request the Governor to pass the bill and if the Governor does not pass the bill, then a protest will be held outside the Raj Bhavan.
Why is the President speaking now?
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has taken a tough stand and said that “President Draupadi Murmu’s statement has come regarding RG Kar Hospital, in which she has expressed concern. We say that we and our party are completely in favor of justice and the accused should get the death penalty. But why is the President speaking now? Where was she when similar cases happened in Unnao, Hathras, Maharashtra, Badlapur and Uttarakhand? Where was she when gold medalist Sakshi Malik’s allegations were against BJP MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh? Now that it has happened in Bengal, it has become a social crime. Where was she when this happened in BJP-ruled states? We respect the President, but do not behave like this.
Obviously, different political parties are giving statements on this issue, but the biggest question is how to completely stop the increasing incidents of rape in the country.
