Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is among the top law entrance exams. The exam is held for those seeking admission into graduate (LLB) and post graduate (LLM) courses in the National Law Universities (NLUs).

The CLAT exam is conducted annually by the Consortium of National Law Universities.

Eligibility

  • Postgraduate courses (LLM)
  • The candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB).
  • Minimum 50% marks are required for general category and 45% for reserved category.

Pattern of Exam

The CLAT exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT), which lasts for 2 hours. It comprises the following sections:

  • English Language: Understanding and interpretation
  • Legal arguments: Understanding legal issues and situations
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs: National and international events
  • Reasoning power: logical and analytical thinking
  • Mathematics: Basic mathematical skills.

For every correct answer, 1 mark will be given, and for each wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.

How to prepare for CLAT?

  • Understand the syllabus: Understand the syllabus of CLAT well and start your preparation accordingly.
  • Read the news: Read newspapers daily to strengthen current affairs and general knowledge.
