A huge statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been erected in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra. The opposition has slammed the Maharashtra government over the incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray have publicly apologized for the incident. Now the Shinde government of the state is going to build a grand statue of Shivaji as a ‘penance’. It will be taller and bigger than the previous statue. The statue will be 60 feet tall.
The government has allotted Rs 20 crore for this. Now the Kankavli Division of the Maharashtra Public Works Department has issued a tender for the construction of the statue. “The statue will be built on the lines of the Statue of Unity in Gujarat,” said Ajay Kumar, executive engineer, PWD. The previous statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was 33 feet high, but now a 60-foot statue will be built. The manufacturing company will have to give a guarantee of 100 years.
PWD engineer Ajay Kumar said that whichever company gets the tender will have to give a guarantee of at least 100 years on the strength of the statute. Along with this, the said company will also have to take care of the statue for 10 years. The tender also stipulates that the construction of the statue should be completed within six months. Ajay Kumar said, “This time we are more careful than before. Therefore, along with selecting the company, strict monitoring of the construction work will be done. There is a provision of punishment with a heavy penalty for breaking the terms and conditions of the tender.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg on December 4, and it collapsed on August 26. The state government has formed two committees to investigate the incident. Two accused have been arrested in the case so far. An investigation into the cause of the incident is still ongoing.
