Bhadrapada month is considered very important in Hinduism and Pitru Paksha starts in this month.

The date of the end of Pitru Paksha is known as Mahalaya Amavasya. On this day, the ancestors bid farewell and they are requested to depart for Pitru Lok again. Pinddaan, Tarpan and Shradh have special significance on this day and it is performed with great reverence and devotion.
Worship and Offerings during Pitru Paksha
During Pitru Paksha, Tarpan should be done through Brahmin for the peace of ancestors. Donation has special significance in Shradh, so donation should be given to Brahmins as well as the needy. Apart from this, it is also necessary to feed crows, dogs and other animals and birds. The materials required for Shradh include sindoor, roli, betel nut, Raksha Sutra, camphor, janeu, turmeric, ghee, honey, black sesame, basil and betel leaves, barley, jaggery, diya, incense sticks, curd, Gangajal, banana, white flowers, urad dal, moong, and sugarcane.
Precautions during Pitru Paksha
Some precautions should be followed during Pitru Paksha. No auspicious work or new work is started at this time. Also, consumption of non-vegetarian food and alcohol is prohibited at this time. To please our ancestors, we should consume simple and satvik food.
