Hartalika Teej is one of the major fasts of Hinduism, which is celebrated every year on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month.
This year Hartalika Teej is on 3rd September 2024. On this day, women observe fast for the long life, happiness, prosperity and child birth of their husband. This fast is particularly well-known in North India.The worship of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati has special significance on the day of Hartalika Teej. In this fast, women fast without water and do Ratri Jagran. Special attention is required in the method of worship so that the full benefit of the fast is obtained.
Key Tips of Worshiping
Statue of Shiva-Parvati: Use clay or metal statues of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati in worship. Worship this statue and offer incense, lamp, naivedya.
Panchamrit: Use Panchamrit during worship. Offer Panchamrit to Shivling and distribute it among the devotees as prasad.
Solah Shringar: On this day, women do sixteen Shringar. Make sure to use Suhaag items such as bangles, bindi, sindoor, mahavar, etc. in the puja.
Water and fruits: Offer water to Shivling and offer fresh fruits. Also include Belpatra, Dhatura and Aak flowers in the fruits.
Offerings
Betel nut and betel leaves: It is considered auspicious to donate betel nut and betel leaves after the puja.
Suhaag items: Donate Suhaag items such as bangles, bindi, kumkum, mehndi, etc.
Food and clothing: Donate food and clothing to the needy. This brings virtue and Lord Shiva’s blessings.
Avoid these activities
- After taking a vow to fast on this day, do not break it, no matter what the situation.
- Do not consume non-vegetarian and tamasic food on the day of the fast.
- No quarrel or dispute of any kind should be done on this day. Maintain peace and calmness.
