Regarding Shivratri

In ancient times, a hunter would gather food for his family by hunting animals in the forest. He spent the entire day walking through the jungle, but found no prey. He became extremely agitated as the fullness of his family’s stomach consumed him. The hunter grew fatigued by dusk and rested close to a forest lake. He would hunt prey, and some animals would most certainly come to drink water. Despite this, the hunter chose to sit under the cover of a vine tree. Unbeknownst to him, beneath the tree lay a Shivalinga. His hope was sated as soon as he ascended the tree and waited. A deer arrived shortly to sip water near the lake. The hunter’s enjoyment had no limitations. He grabbed the bow right away to target the deer. However, as soon as he drew the bow, some vine leaves from the tree fell onto the Shivalinga, which was placed below.

The deer pleaded to live.

Sensing the peril, the deer asked the hunter, “Don’t kill me. .I will send my children off with my master and come back, “don’t kill me.” The hunter originally disregarded her prayers since he had to support his family. But he let her go, as the deer’s love and compassion touched his heart. The hunter assumed she would return, and he might hunt her again.I will send my children off with my The hunter had resolved himself to murder her.

Another deer arrived close to the lake after some time. Once again, the hunter prepared his bow; this time, the leaves from the tree fell upon the Shivling. Unconsciously, the hunter completed his second prahar puja. Once more, the deer begged the hunter for pity; unfortunately, the hunter had decided to shoot her. According to the deer, when one breaks his promise, he loses all his merits. The hunter also released her; she vowed she would return.

We performed the third Prahar Puja in this manner.

After releasing two deer, the hunter began to worry about whether his family would go hungry today. Then a deer arrived at the scene. The hunter used the same bow as before. Once more in the procedure, some Belpatras dropped on the Shivling and finished his third prahar puja. This time the deer claimed he would be pleased to satiate someone’s hunger, not begging the hunter for pity. He initially expressed his desire to leave his children with their mother. The hunter believed him to be genuine and allowed him to leave.

Satisfied with the hunter, Lord Shiva bestowed upon him a blessing.

After observing for some time, the hunter realized that all the deer had returned to him. He grabbed the bow once more and completed his fourth Prahar puja. His change of heart resulted from his entire devotion to Shiva at last. He felt regret for having hunted these defenseless creatures to provide for his family. He invited every deer to return. Happy with his hunter’s choice, Lord Shiva materialized to bless him with glory and reputation.
