‘Parakh’, an organization under NCERT, has recently presented an important report. This report has suggested a major change in the result evaluation of class 12. According to the proposal, the marks from 9th to 11th will also be included in the 12th result. This step has been taken to promote the overall development of students and equitable evaluation.
Comprehensive reform in the education system
This new initiative of NCERT aims to bring comprehensive reform to the Indian education system. The report suggests that all 32 education boards of the country should adopt a uniform policy. Under this policy, the dependence on the marks of the last examination only in the 12th result will be reduced. Instead, the marks of all the examinations of the students from 9th to 11th will also be taken into account. This change will encourage the overall academic development of the students and free them from the pressure of just one exam.

Another important suggestion has been made in the report: along with academic education, students should also be taught vocational and skill-based courses. Data management, coding, application development, artificial intelligence, music, and arts & crafts are some of the topics covered. This will help students get better jobs and is in accordance with the new education policy.
Change in assessment system
NCERT has proposed to divide the 12th result into two parts: formative and summative assessment. Formative assessment will include self-reflection of students, portfolio, teacher assessment, project work, and group discussion. Summative assessment will have midterm and final examinations. This system will ensure a more comprehensive and accurate assessment of students.
Credit-based system
The report recommends a credit-based system for students from grades 9 to 12. In this system, students in every class will be given credits based on formative and summative assessment. For example, class 9 will have 70% formative and 30% summative assessment, while this ratio will be reversed in class 12.
Improvements in school infrastructure and teacher performance
NCERT has also placed a strong emphasis on enhancing school facilities and keeping an eye on instructors’ performance. This includes having access to clean drinking water, improved library resources, and suitable sports facilities.
