Ratan Tata became the chairman of the Tata Group in 1991

Born on December 28, 1937, Ratan Tata started his career in the Tata Group in 1961 at the age of 24. His first assignment was to manage the shop floor operations at Tata Steel. Ratan Tata became the chairman of the Tata Group in 1991. His most important contribution to the Tata Group was that he made the group global. By the time Ratan Tata took over the group and 21 years later, in 2012, when he left the group, the group’s revenue had increased 12 times. At the age of 75, he retired from the chairmanship of Tata Group.

Ratan Tata was one of the few industrialists in the country who strongly supported liberalization in the 80s and 90s. He has also been honored with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan by the Government of India. His popularity can be gauged from the fact that he has 10 million followers on the social media platform Instagram and 12.6 million on X. In India, Ratan Tata is one such name that showed the common man the dream of becoming a car owner. His love for animals is also well known.

Whenever, after the death of a great personality, a state of mourning is declared for him. His funeral will be held with full state honors. During this time, the coffin containing the body of the deceased is wrapped in the tricolor, and the national flag is flown at half-mast. Not only this, the ritual of the gun salute is performed at the time of a funeral. A public holiday is declared during the period of mourning. When a state mourning is declared in the country, the tricolor in the state assembly, secretariats, and important offices is flown at half-mast for that period.

The big thing is that after the announcement of state mourning, no government program or function is organized in the state. It is to be noted that there need not be a public holiday during the period of state mourning. Earlier, state mourning was announced only on the death of prime ministers, state chief ministers, and central ministers. But now this honor is given to all those personalities who have made significant contributions to the interest of the country. The government takes the decision of a state holiday considering their stature and work.
