At present, most people in India are suffering from vitamin D deficiency. Looking at the healthy looking Indians, no one can guess that they have vitamin D deficiency. Well, according to scientific reports published in the year 2024, vitamin D deficiency is most commonly found in adults in urban areas of South India. Another study conducted in northern India found that 91.2% of healthy adults over the age of 50 have severe vitamin D deficiency. A survey conducted by Tata 1mg Labs in the year 2023 revealed that one in every three Indians is suffering from vitamin D deficiency. This figure has reached 84% in the age group below 25 years, while it was 81% in the age group of 25-40. According to doctors, people in urban areas stay inside the house or office most of the time. Due to which the skin does not get enough sunlight. Indians have more melanin in their skin, due to which they have to spend more time in the sun than other people with soft skin.

- Smoke, dust and smog block the UVB rays of the sun. Actually, it is very important for the production of vitamin D in the skin.
- Indian food lacks vitamin D-rich foods, such as fish, egg yolk and dairy products.

Make up for vitamin D deficiency in this way
- Spend at least half an hour in the sun every day between 8 and 11 in the morning.
- Include vitamin D-rich foods like salmon, mackerel, and fortified cereals in your diet.
