Recently, the administration opened the old Shiv temple in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, which was closed for about 46 years. In this temple, along with the ancient Shivling, a statue of Hanuman ji and a well were also found. Surprisingly, the administration found 3 statues while digging the well. These statues are of Maa Parvati, Lord Ganesh and Kartikeya. Let us tell you that this temple was closed since the year 1978. The administration got the temple cleaned and on December 15, puja-aarti was performed in it with full rituals and chanting of mantras. In this entire case, Deputy SP Anuj Chaudhary says that “Three idols have been recovered from the temple. The digging of the well has been stopped for now. The well has been covered. During the digging, idols of Maa Parvati, Ganesh ji and Kartikeya ji have been found. Carbon dating of these idols will be done. One idol is of marble, which seems to be of Kartikeya ji. 2 idols are broken.”
In the riots of 1978, a big warehouse in the street of the temple was set on fire.
According to the information received, this temple is very ancient and 400 years old. This is a Kartik Shankar temple. 82-year-old Vishnu Sharan Rastogi ji says that “Around 40 to 42 houses of his clan lived here in Khaggu Sarai. His family lived in this entire street. All the religious programs of the family were performed from this temple and water was taken from the well and worship was done in the temple. On this, Vishnu Sharan Rastogi further said that “Before the year 1978, his entire family lived in Sambhal. But in the riots of 1978, a big godown in that lane was set on fire. After this, 40 to 42 Rastogi families left that place. The temple was also left as it was. After this, the Muslim population came and settled there. Their houses were also bought by the people of the Muslim community. After this, no Rastogi family went to that temple to worship.”

The well was filled up and a parking space was made over it
According to Vishnu Sharan Rastogi, “Many times there was talk of appointing a priest in the temple, but the priest also refused to go to that lane in view of the communal tension.” He told that “Encroachment has been done by removing the balcony towards the upper peak of the temple. This balcony was not there earlier. Apart from this, there was a 4-foot circumambulation path just behind the temple, that too was removed and a house has been built there. The well of the temple has also been filled up by putting soil on it and a parking space has been made over it.”
