French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Francois Bayrou as the new Prime Minister of France. Last week, Prime Minister Michel Barnier and his cabinet were forced to resign after a historic no-confidence vote. Bayrou, 73, is a key ally of Macron’s centrist coalition and has been an influential name in French politics for decades. His political experience is expected to bring stability to the country, especially when no party has a majority in the National Assembly.
Challenges for Bayrou
Macron has tasked Bayrou with forming a new government. For this, Bayaru will have to talk to the leaders of various parties about the formation of the cabinet, which is a difficult task. His cabinet will need the support of liberal lawmakers from both the left and the right to remain in power. Some Conservative MPs are also likely to join the new government.

Bayrou’s Controversy and Political Journey
Bayrou was recently accused of embezzling European Parliament funds, of which he was acquitted. He served as education minister from 1993 to 1997 and was a three-time presidential candidate. Bayrou is the founder of the centrist Democratic Movement (Modem), which he formed in 2007. In 2017, he supported Macron for the presidency and became a key part of his coalition.
