Operation Lotus in Maharashtra? Many leaders may leave MVA, this leader’s statement created a stir

Uddhav Thackeray MVA exit

Even after the formation of the government in Maharashtra, there is a buzz in political circles that the BJP may start Operation Lotus to bring the MLAs and MPs of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to its side. This has also been discussed in political circles for the past several days. This is being said because Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule and his colleague Praveen Darekar claimed on Wednesday that many MPs and MLAs of the MVA have contacted them and expressed their displeasure with their respective parties. However, Congress state president Nana Patole dismissed the claims of BJP leaders, calling them absurd.

Many people want to change sides – Maharashtra BJP President

In fact, in the recently concluded Maharashtra assembly elections, the MVA, formed by the alliance of Congress, Uddhav’s Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar NCP, performed very poorly. The performance was so poor that it could win only 46 out of 288 assembly seats. In contrast, the Mahayuti of BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP alliance won 230 seats. This is the reason why the election results are fueling speculation about MVA MLAs joining the ruling coalition. Not only this, Bawankule’s statement in which he said that “MVA leaders themselves are expressing their uneasiness. Many people want to change sides.” It is also being feared that BJP may start Operation Lotus in Maharashtra.

Bawankule also said that “there has been no organized effort to persuade MVA leaders to change the party. BJP is ready to welcome those who wish to join their vision for a developed country.” Countering Bawankule’s statement, Patole said that “Bawankule’s claim is not worth answering.” Putting forth his point, he further said that “All Congress MPs from Maharashtra are with the party. We will show the real position of the Mahayuti in the upcoming winter session of the Maharashtra Legislature in Nagpur.” Earlier, BJP leader Pravin Darekar had said on Wednesday that if development is their priority, some MPs of Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Chandra Pawar) may switch allegiance and join his party. Darekar said that many MPs of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, especially those of the NCP, represent constituencies where the BJP-led alliance has won the most seats in the assembly elections.

Our MPs are firm and will not betray the alliance – Vidya Chavan

NCP (SP) leader Vidya Chavan outrightly rejected Darekar’s claims, saying “The BJP-led central government has a weak alliance with leaders like Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu. The government is afraid of losing their support, that is why they are adopting the strategy of luring MPs from opposition parties.” Vidya Chavan expressed confidence that “our MPs are firm and will not betray the alliance.” Reacting to the comments of BJP leaders, Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar said that if the saffron party is planning to launch Operation Lotus by using money and political power to lure MVA MLAs, the people will give them a befitting reply at the appropriate time.
