After this, these notes were again taken out of circulation. RBI had announced the removal of the bank note of Rs 2,000 value category from circulation on May 19 last year. And till October 7, 2023, the facility of depositing or exchanging the bank note of Rs 2000 was available in all the bank branches of the country. 98.08 percent notes have come back to the banks

Let us tell you that even today the facility to exchange these notes is available in 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank. The big thing is that the RBI’s issue offices have been accepting Rs 2,000 bank notes from people and units to deposit in their bank accounts from October 9, 2023. Not only this, people can also send Rs 2,000 notes to any RBI issue office through Indian Post within the country. This money will be deposited in their bank account. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India, while giving an update about the Rs 2000 denomination notes, said that “98.08 percent of the notes have returned to the banks. The total value of Rs 2000 notes in circulation as on May 19, 2023 was Rs 3.56 lakh crore.

People have notes worth only Rs 6,839 crore

According to media reports, the central bank said in a statement that “The total value of Rs 2,000 notes in circulation as on May 19, 2023 was Rs 3.56 lakh crore. This amount decreased to Rs 6,839 crore on November 29, 2024. “According to the Reserve Bank of India, 98.08 percent of the notes of Rs 2,000 denomination have returned to the banks. Now only notes worth Rs 6,839 crore are with the people.
