After the crushing defeat in Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections, the Congress’s concern has increased. Not only the top leaders of the party but also the workers are not able to understand how to deal with the continuous defeat. In this connection, a meeting of the Congress Working Committee was held in Delhi on Friday to brainstorm on the defeat in Haryana and Maharashtra elections after the Lok Sabha. During this, many senior leaders of the party including National President Mallikarjun Kharge were present. Rahul Gandhi, who was present in this meeting, told which path the party has to move forward.

In this meeting, Rahul Gandhi has drawn a line for the Congress. He told which path the party should follow. During this, whether it is caste census or reservation, he put forth his views on all issues. Not only this, he also made his stand clear on the Sambhal of UP or the Ajmer Masjid dispute of Rajasthan. According to media reports, raising questions about the transparency of the electoral process, MP Rahul Gandhi said that “Questions will have to be raised on the Election Commission.” Addressing the party leaders, Rahul Gandhi further said that “When we took a clear stand on caste census and increased the reservation cap from 50 percent, BJP got upset. It has no answer. Similarly, we should take a clear stand on all issues including Sambhal.”

We want the Places of Worship Act to be followed in letter and spirit – Pawan Khera

Not only this, during this time, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, while giving information about the passed resolution, said that “The Congress Working Committee has passed a resolution. It says that BJP is working to increase communal tension in the country including UP. The Places of Worship Act of 1991 should be respected.” Pawan Khera, who was present in the meeting, said that “Corruption of business groups, communal tension in Manipur and Sambhal were discussed. BJP is rejecting the Places of Worship Act, we want to follow it in letter and spirit.” This clearly means that Congress is against any kind of tampering or survey in mosques. Meanwhile, Pawan Khera further said that “Congress government should have been formed in Haryana. There was rigging in the elections. Our performance in Maharashtra is shocking. It is beyond comprehension. It seems to be a case of manipulation. The demand for giving full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir will continue.”

We will have to go for ballot instead of EVM – Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

Important decisions were also taken regarding the elections in the Congress Working Committee meeting. Venugopal said that “There should be fair elections, we will run a national movement on this issue. Congress will contact the public and run a mass movement for the return of ballot paper.” On the rigging in the elections, Priyanka Gandhi said that “We have to go for ballots instead of EVMs. There can be no middle ground, either EVMs or ballot papers.”
