America’s newly elected President Donald Trump has nominated another Indian-origin person for the top administrative post. Trump has chosen Indian-American scientist Jayant Bhattacharya as the director of the “National Institute of Health” (NIH). With this, he has become the first Indian-American to be nominated by Trump for the top administrative post. Let us tell you that NIH is considered one of the top health research and funding institutions in the country. Earlier, Trump had chosen Indian-American Vivek Ramaswami for the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency along with Tesla company owner Elon Musk. Let us tell you that this is a voluntary post and does not require confirmation from the US Senate.
Dr. Jayant Bhattacharya will guide the nation’s medical research
During this, Trump announced that “I am very pleased to nominate Jay Bhattacharya, M.D., Ph.D. as the Director of NIH. Dr. Bhattacharya will work with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to guide the nation’s medical research and encourage important discoveries that improve health and save lives.”

Who is Jayant Bhattacharya
Jayant Bhattacharya is currently a policy professor at Stanford University in the US. He is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economics Research at the university. Born in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal in 1968, Jay Bhattacharya has obtained an MD degree from Stanford University’s School of Medicine in 1997. Then in the year 2000, he obtained a PhD degree in the Department of Economics from the same university. He has been working here since 2011. Apart from the demography of health and old age, he has the separate responsibility of the Director of the Center for Economics. The big thing is that his research has been published in the US economics, public health, various statistics, legal, medical and health policy journals. Not only this, he has also done complex research on the lethality of infection, corona epidemiology and the impact of lockdown policies.
