The trends of Maharashtra assembly elections have almost decided the condition and direction of the new government. Out of 288 assembly seats in the state, NDA is leading in 218 seats, while the Congress alliance is leading in only 55 seats, while others are ahead in 15 seats. Congress did not even get a hint when Maharashtra, once called the stronghold of Congress, went into the BJP’s camp. We will talk about the Modi wave of the year 2014 when BJP and Shiv Sena once again formed the government, but after the results of the assembly elections in 2019, there was a rebellion in Shiv Sena and BJP over the post of Chief Minister. This rebellion broke out to such an extent that both the parties came face to face with each other and started calling themselves the real face of Hindutva in Maharashtra.
BJP continued to take a dig at Uddhav Thackeray on the issue of Hindutva
Meanwhile, in the 2019 assembly elections, when Uddhav Thackeray left the BJP and joined the NCP and Congress, questions were raised on his Hindutva agenda. At that time, after becoming the Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray had said in one of his statements that “He is the headmaster of Hindutva. Keeping promises is also a part of my Hindutva. I was following my Hindutva yesterday as well. I do it today as well and will continue to do so in the future. I am still with the ideology of Hindutva, which can never be separated from me.” Let us tell you that after the alliance with Shiv Sena broke in the year 2019, BJP not only continued to target Uddhav Thackeray but also kept taking a dig at him on the issue of Hindutva. After this, when there was a rebellion in Shiv Sena in the year 2022, the leader of the rebel party Eknath Shinde also accused Uddhav Thackeray of deviating from the issue of Hindutva.
Our Hindutva is not about fooling people – Uddhav Thackeray
However, during the Lok Sabha elections, the performance of the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes Shiv Sena UBT, NCP Sharad Pawar and Congress, was quite good. After this, the BJP alliance started getting marginalised. After the performance of MVA in the Lok Sabha elections, the alliance started seeing hope of coming to power. Meanwhile, during the election campaign on November 17 this month, Uddhav Thackeray surrounded the BJP on the issue of Hindutva and said that “Our Hindutva is not about fooling people. Our Hindutva is about ending terrorism. Our Hindutva lights the stoves in people’s homes, while BJP’s Hindutva burns people to ashes.“

Left Hindutva in greed for power
At the same time, the BJP alliance accused Uddhav Thackeray of leaving Hindutva in greed for power. However, during the assembly elections 2024, BJP’s slogan ‘Bantenge to Katenge‘ gave a new direction to politics on the issue of Hindutva in Maharashtra. This cannot be denied, its effect is clearly visible in the election results. According to the election trends, at present, the BJP alliance can be called the leader of Hindutva in Maharashtra.
