Kashi is one of the oldest cities in India and is also a centre of religious and cultural importance. Dev Deepawali is celebrated every year on the full moon day of Kartik month in Kashi. On this day, lakhs of diyas are lit up on the banks of river Ganga, making it a sight to behold. This year too, on Dev Deepawali, the view of the ghats of Kashi was amazing. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was also present on the occasion. 

Importance of Dev Deepawali

Dev Deepawali is considered to be the biggest festival of Kashi. On this day, Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva are worshipped. It is believed that on this day, Gods come down from heaven and bathe in the river Ganga. The deities are welcomed by lighting diyas.

Importance of Diya

Diya is a symbol of dispelling darkness and bringing light. On Dev Deepawali, diys are lit to dispel ignorance and seek the light of knowledge. The light of diyas purifies the entire atmosphere and removes negative energy. This year, 25 lakh diyas were lit on the Ganga ghat. 

Dev Deepawali 2024 Celebration in Kashi

On the day of Dev Deepawali, all the 84 ghats of Kashi were decorated with diyas. As soon as the evening came, lakhs of diyas were lit on the banks of the river Ganga, which lit up the entire atmosphere. Bhajan-Kirtan, Aarti and other religious rituals are performed during this period.
