Nowadays, the risk of lung cancer is increasing rapidly all over the world. Globally, it is one of the major causes of death. Medical reports show that lung cancer is the most common cause of death in Indian men. Smoking is usually considered to be the main cause of lung cancer. But many recent studies are pointing towards the fact that most of the lung cancer patients in India are those who have never smoked. This simply means that the risk of cancer is increasing even among those who do not smoke. Now the question is that since smoking has been the main cause of this cancer, then why is the risk increasing among those who do not smoke? The big surprise is that barely 5 percent of patients are able to get timely surgery and proper treatment.
Increasing air pollution can be the main cause of lung cancer
Let us tell you that a study published in ‘The Lancet Regional Health Southeast Asia Journal’ says that “It is certainly surprising that most of the lung cancer patients are those who have never smoked. Compared to other parts of Asia and the West, Southeast Asia has the highest number of patients who have no history of smoking.” At the same time, researchers believe that increasing air pollution may be the reason for this. Experts say that “important factors like air pollution and genetic mutations can be responsible for the increasing cancer in non-smokers. The rate of lung cancer, which was 6.62 per one lakh people in the year 1990, has increased to 7.7 in 2019.
A person of any age and gender can get lung cancer
Not only this, another shocking thing has come in this report that the average age of detection of lung cancer in Western countries is between 54 to 70, although in India it is being diagnosed even in those aged 44 to 48 at least 10 years earlier. Studies show that men are more prone to this cancer than women. Possibly the habit of tobacco and smoking in men may be responsible for this. Let us tell you that the rate of lung cancer in men is 42.4 percent while in women it is 14.2 percent. Let us tell you that about 5.9% of all types of cancer and about 8.1% of cancer-related deaths in India are from women. Lung cancer has been considered responsible for this. Although this lung cancer can occur in people of any age and gender. However, its risk can be seen more in men.

Use good quality masks
The first step to avoid this is to quit smoking, because it poses the greatest risk. Apart from this, efforts should also be made to avoid exposure to radon and chemicals. Use good quality masks to reduce the risks caused by air pollution. Not only this, according to health experts, everyone needs to keep trying to reduce the risk of lung cancer.
