The upcoming assembly elections(Maharashtra politics) are to be held in Maharashtra on 20 November. As the days are passing, the political excitement is increasing. To win this great contest on 288 assembly seats, there are many political parties who have bet on former royal families. In such a situation, it would not be wrong to say that political parties in Maharashtra are still dependent on former royal families to win the upcoming assembly elections. Let us know who are those heirs on whom political parties have put their luck at stake.
Descendants of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are contenders on this seat (Maharashtra politics)
Talking about the descendants of Maharashtra’s revered deity Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shivendraraje, popularly known as Babaraje, has entered the fray as a BJP candidate from Satara Assembly to save the seat for the fifth time. Shivendraraje was earlier with the NCP. Then before the 2019 assembly elections, he went to BJP. Let us tell you that his father Abhaysinghraje Bhosale has been an MLA six times by winning from Congress, NCP and Janata Party. Not only this, Shivendraraje Bhosale’s cousin and the current king of Satara Chhatrapati Udayanraje Bhosale is a BJP MP from Satara Lok Sabha seat.
Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj’s daughter-in-law Madhurimaraje withdraws her nomination
From Kolhapur North, Congress had fielded Raja Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj’s daughter-in-law Madhurimaraje Chhatrapati against Rajesh Kshirsagar of the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. She is the daughter of former minister late Digvijay Khanvilkar. Well, she withdrew her nomination on November 4. Congress is very embarrassed by her move. Actually, earlier Rajesh Latkar was made the candidate from this seat, but after the protest of local Congress leaders, Madhurimaraje was nominated as the Congress candidate. However, after the withdrawal of nomination, Congress now has to support Rajesh Latkar, who is contesting as an independent.
Shahu Maharaj is a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s younger son Chhatrapati Rajaram
Let us tell you that Madhurimaraje’s husband Malojiraje has been an MLA from Kolhapur North between 2004 and 2009. Malojiraje’s elder brother Yuvraj Sambhajiraje has previously been a Rajya Sabha MP. He leads his own party Swarajya. It is worth noting that Shahu Maharaj is a descendant of Chhatrapati Rajaram, the younger son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Not only this, the Satara royal family is a descendant of Shivaji Maharaj’s elder son Chhatrapati Sambhaji.
