The Pushkar fair, which is held every year in Pushkar city located in Ajmer district of Rajasthan, is going to start once again. This year this fair will start from 2 November and will continue till 17 November with full religious enthusiasm. Pushkar fair is not only a religious event, but also a cultural festival in which lakhs of devotees and tourists from the country and abroad come to participate. The main attraction of this fair is the religious bath in Pushkar Sarovar. But this time due to special reasons, religious bathing has been allowed only for four days in Pushkar. Let us know why this is being done this year and what is its importance.
Mythological belief of Pushkar fair
Pushkar fair holds special importance from a religious point of view. It is believed that Pushkar Sarovar was built by Lord Brahma himself. On the occasion of Kartik Purnima, Brahmaji is worshipped here, and bathing in this lake destroys all sins. The importance of bathing on Kartik Purnima also increases because on this day Brahmaji performed Yagya in Pushkar. On this day lakhs of devotees bathe in Pushkar Sarovar and attain virtue.
Duration of the fair and bathing dates
This time only four days of religious bathing have been fixed in the Pushkar fair. One of the main reasons behind the reduction in the traditional period of the fair is – to control the increasing crowd and arrangements. Pushkar fair will be organised at a distance of about 15 kilometres from Ajmer district of Rajasthan, which has been happening for more than 100 years. Camel trade takes place on a large scale in this fair, and people from far and wide bring their camels here decorated in a special way. According to Pandit Surendra Rajguru of Pushkar, this time the religious bath will be Bhishma Chaturthi bath instead of Bhishma Panchak. Due to the loss of Brahma Chaturdashi Tithi, religious bathing will be completed from November 12 to Kartik Shukla Purnima on November 15.
