India is the world’s most populous nation. India has achieved this milestone by surpassing China this year. Needless to say, the country is facing many problems, including unemployment due to the increasing population. On the one hand, the Modi government is thinking of bringing a law on population control, while the allies of the NDA constituent party are appealing to increase the number of children. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has expressed serious concern over the declining youth population in the state. To deal with the problem of old age, the Chief Minister has urged the people to increase the number of children. According to him, the fertility rate in the southern states has already fallen to 1.6, which is much lower than the national average of 2.1.

The increasing number of elderly people in villages is alarming

Concerned over the declining population, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said, “Signs of the problem of increasing age are visible, especially in Andhra Pradesh. Not only South India, but many countries in the world, such as Japan, China, and some European countries, have a high number of elderly people. In Andhra Pradesh, the problem is even more acute as the youth migrate to other parts of the country or abroad. Due to the migration to the cities, the youth in the villages have been left without equality. The reason is that now only elderly people are left in the villages. Due to this, the state government is seriously working on “population management.” Not only this, it is also considering the possibility of a new law to encourage families to have more children.

Only those with more than two children can contest local body elections

“The state government is thinking of bringing a law according to which only those who have more than two children will be eligible to become candidates in the local body elections,” Naidu said. Further speaking on the subject, the Chief Minister said that “the state had earlier passed a law under which people having more than two children could not stand in local elections. We have repealed that law. Not only this, the government is also planning to give more benefits to families for more children.”

Accepting his earlier stand, Chandrababu Naidu said, “At that time, the thinking was that limited natural resources should be protected. The increasing population can hinder development. We have succeeded in reducing population growth, but due to this, new problems have now become acute.
