Sharad Pawar vs. BJP ahead of the assembly elections

The political battle is raging in Maharashtra ahead of the assembly elections. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar is the frontrunner in the race. While Sharad Pawar has reached the Supreme Court and tried to corner his nephew Ajit Pawar by demanding a ban on the NCP’s election symbol ‘clock’, on the other hand, he has been trying to spoil the game of Mahayuti by giving a continuous blow to the BJP.

After inducting Harshvardhan Patil and Samarjitsinh Ghatge into the party, Sharad Pawar has given another jolt to the BJP in western Maharashtra. Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Rajendra Deshmukh had quit the BJP and joined the NCP. Rajendra Anna, a former BJP MLA, is all set to enter the electoral fray this time too.

Rajendra Deshmukh, who joined Sharad Pawar’s party after leaving the BJP, met Sharad Pawar at a public meeting in Sangli and launched a scathing attack on the BJP. “The BJP had sold all of us to the Shiv Sena Shinde group. This government is corrupt. Rajendra Anna also expressed his desire to contest the assembly elections from Khanapur constituency. The seat was earlier held by Shiv Sena’s Anil Babbar, who had defected to Eknath Shinde’s group after a rebellion in the Sena. However, the seat fell vacant after the death of sitting MLA Anil Babbar a few months ago. In the Mahayuti alliance, this seat will go to Shinde’s Shiv Sena. Seeing this, Rajendra Anna Deshmukh left the BJP and joined hands with Sharad Pawar.

Elections to the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly are likely to be held by November-end. The dates can be announced by October 10. This has caused flutters in political circles of the state. Many of the BJP leaders who had applied for tickets have so far switched over to other parties. Leaders of other parties are also joining the BJP.
