India has created history in the Paris Paralympic 2024. The para athletes of our country have surprised the world with their passion and hard work. Team India surpassed the record of 19 medals for Tokyo 2020 by winning a total of 20 medals. This achievement is a matter of pride for the Indian sports world.
Distribution of medals
Paralympics contributed the most to this spectacular success. India won a total of 10 medals in this sport, which is half the total medals. Our players also did wonders in para badminton and won 5 medals. Apart from this, 4 medals were won in shooting and 1 in archery. These 20 medals include 3 gold, 7 silver, and 10 bronze. Explosion in athletics
Wednesday morning was memorable for Indian fans. In just half an hour, the paraathletes team surprised everyone by winning 4 medals. In the men’s javelin throw F46 final, Ajeet Singh won the silver medal with his best throw of 65.62 meters. His teammate Sundar Singh Gurjar won the bronze medal with a season-best throw of 64.96 meters. On the same day, India also won two medals in the men’s high jump T63 final. With a 1.89-meter jump, Sharad Kumar earned the silver medal. He also set a new Paralympic record in the T42 category. Mariyappan Thangavelu jumped 1.85 meters to earn the bronze medal.
Badminton performance
Indian players performed brilliantly in para badminton.Men’s singles SL3 category’s gold medal went to Nitesh Kumar. Thulasimati Murugesan and Manisha Ramdas won silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the women’s singles SU5 category. Suhas Yathiraj won the silver medal in the men’s singles SL4 category.
Success in shooting and archery
In shooting, Avani Lekhara won the gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle standing event. In the same competition Mona Agarwal took home a bronze medal. Manish Narwal won the silver medal in the men’s 10 meter air pistol. In archery, the pair of Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi won the bronze medal in the mixed team compound open event. This great success of India in the Paris Paralympics has increased the interest of people towards para sports in the country.
